These 3 questions can help you feel grounded and balanced. Especially when you are lacking motivation and don’t know how to move forward.
1. What Am I Grateful For?
Gratitude is such a powerful tool which can benefit us in several ways.
Practising gratitude everyday I’ve noticed a deep shift in my general mood. I started to appreciate everything around me more, noticing what is already good and not focusing on what is bad or I don’t have. Thanks to gratitude I started to find contentment, feel better about my self and about others too.
I think it’s amazing how gratitude not only benefits our emotional system but also our physical body. In fact, gratitude is a mighty weapon against stress and anxiety and improves the quality of our sleep too.
There are plenty of advantages of practicing gratitude. From having better relationships with people to improving our working performance. Last but not least, gratitude decreases materialistic thinking , which is well-known as one of the major obstacles towards happiness and fulfilment.
Gratitude just creates an incredible loop of positivity and abundance.
Now, these are only a few of the benefits of gratitude. The ones that relate most with my own personal experience. The cool thing is that the benefits are basically immediate. You will start to notice changes in your mood soon after being truly grateful in your attitude.
One of the ways I like to practice gratitude is by writing down 3 things I am grateful for everyday, before starting the day. These can be really simple. Either people or things. Sometimes I am grateful for my family or people that I love, or someone in particular. Sometimes I am grateful for the sun, living by the sea or having a shelter over my head.
So you, what are you grateful for? think about it and write it down in the comments!
2. How Do I Want My Life To Be In 1,3,5 Or 10 Years?
Now that we feel grounded and centred in the present moment we can start to think about our future.
So think about where you are in life right now. Where do you want to be in 1 year? What about 3 years? And in 5 or 10? In what city do you want to live? In which house? With who? What will you be doing for work? What will you be doing in your spare time? Who will be your friends? What will your average day look like? Etc. etc.
It’s essential to have a defined picture of how we want our life to look in the future. In this process, it’s important to imagine as many details as possible. This is strictly related with visualisation, so you also want to evoke the emotions of how you would feel in the future you are drawing.
Now, if you have never done this before, the first time it might take a while. I really want you to stop and think how you exactly want things to be. What do you want to be different from where you are right now? Really take the time to imagine your future in detail. Write everything down, and if needed, feel free to add anything at anytime.
Everyday, when you will ask yourself this question, take your piece of paper out and read it. Read it out loud if you want, but, most importantly, remember to evoke the feelings and emotions of your desires and wishes already being fulfilled.
3. What Action(s) Can I Do Today That Will Gradually Get Me Closer To My Final Desired Situation?
So now that we have truly grounded ourselves into the present moment and dived deeply into the future, is time to connect the two and bridge the distance between where we are right now, and where we want to get.
That’s where actions take place. This is the process I use to understand what will be the next step and action I will take: if this is where I am right now and this is where I want to be, what can I do today in order to get closer to my desired situation?
If you have a clear picture in your mind of what you want to be different in the future, it will be easy to identify which actions you need to take to move towards the right direction. In the same way, it will be easy to point out which actions you need to stop doing because they are not bringing any results. Here we go, now you know what actions you can start to do immediately to move forward and complete another step towards your goals.
Now this will bring order and clarity into your mind. And a mind that is strong, organised, and tidy is more productive and efficient.
