Going to get gym can be frustrating and challenging. In fact, many people constantly fight against themselves in order to find the motivation to go the gym.
I have chosen to speak about this topic because I know many people that have been going on and off to the gym. Sometimes they are on a winning streak, and they keep going for a few weeks, or even months. Sometimes, they pay for the membershipbut…they don’t really use it! I hear all the time people saying sentences like: “I can’t be bothered to go to the gym” or “today I don’t feel like going to the gym” or “I’ll go to the gym tomorrow or maybe next week’ andagain “I’m so bored of going to the gym”.
There are several different reasons why people get bored of the gym. But there is one that’s the most important, because all the other reasons are consequences of this one.
The root cause of why you get bored of the gym is that you are not passionate about going. I think it’s quite simple and straightforward. However, there are plenty of people who continue to sign up to the gym hoping that this time will be different, and magically they will find consistency in training. Well.. that’s not going to happen.
I mean, if you are really passionate about something, you don’t just stop doing it. You don’t stop listening to your favourite type of music and you don’t stop going on holiday to your favourite place. That’s why, there are people who are in the gym 24/7, because they are truly passionate about it.
So if you have thrown away a few gym memberships, just stop giving false hope to yourself. You don’t have to go the gym if you don’t enjoy it. It’s really simple. There are lots of sports that you can try, find exciting and have fun with. Just try something else!
Sub-reasons why you get bored of the gym
– Training Indoor
One of the sub-reasons why you can get bored of the gym is because you don’t like exercising indoors. Ipersonally understand this one. In my personal point of view, training in nature is the best option both for the freshness of the air and for re-establishing contact with nature which is essential in this modern society. Moreover, if you want to run or cycle, doing it on a tread mill or stationary bike is quiteboring. Just go outside! And if it’s raining or snowing, do it anyway, I tried and it was fun!
While if you enjoy weight lifting, but you really struggle do it indoors there are more and more outdoorgyms everywhere where you can do all kinds of exercise, functional training, calisthenics and so on. And really, you can train all of your muscles with no equipment at all
Another sub-reason why you might get bored of the gym is because you don’t like the environment around you. This is a huge one and is really dependent on the root cause. When we exercise, it’s vital that we do it in a way that we enjoy, and it’s also essential that we like the people around us. If you don’t have anything in common with the people around you, you are not going to have a good time. If you don’t like what you are doing or you are on a completely different wavelength from everyone else, that could be a good sign that you have probably chosen the wrong place to train. That’s absolutely fine. We are all different and if you don’t fit in with a particular group, I’m sure there is another one where you will fit in perfectly.
The last sub-reason I’m going to talk about is that you can get bored of the gym because you don’t like repeating the same workout routine, and you would like more change and variety. Well, again this is highly dependent on the root cause. This is mainly because you are not passionate about it, otherwise you would not get bored of repeating the same type of workout. Of course, you can also implement some complementary activities to make sure that your workout is complete, but you don’t get bored of what you love. I mean, how often do you change your favourite restaurant where everything is delicious and you feel at home? You just need to find what really suits you and then, trust me, you won’t let it go.
